
We’re Hiring: Private Client Legal Secretary/Legal Assistant
Salary – Up to £25,000.00 PA DOE
The Opportunity
We have an opportunity for a Legal Secretary/Legal Assistant to join our Private Client – Wills and Probate team as part of the continued growth of our law firm.
The position is full-time based at our Midsomer Norton office to assist principally one fee earner and other members of the team as required. The fee earner’s work is predominantly non-contentious including probate and estate administration, drafting and executing wills and powers of attorney.
Experience required
Our ideal candidate is detail-oriented and cares about delivering excellent legal services to our clients. You must be confident to manage the demands on your time and those of the fee earners, who often work to tight deadlines.
No two clients are the same and we seek someone adaptable with a customer service mindset. We will consider candidates from either a legal secretarial background or individuals with part/full qualification in the Legal Practice Course or Solicitor Qualifying Examinations 1 and 2, looking for an opportunity in a law firm to grow their career.
About you:
• Proactive and enthusiastic with a “can do” attitude
• Strong administrative and organisational skills
• Knowledge of and experience using a case management system
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
• Experience managing and formatting legal documents
• Familiarity with legal terminology and procedures
• Ability to handle confidential information with discretion
• Fast and accurate typing speed
• Experience with Bighand digital dictation software or equivalent
• Experience in Wills and Probate is an advantage
Key responsibilities:
• Providing full secretarial support to a fee earner
• Producing letters, emails and documents, often using a digital dictation system
• Opening files and dealing with money-laundering checks, file management and secure storage of documents
• Witnessing Wills and attending home visits with fee earners
• Photocopying, scanning and maintaining paper files and electronic records
• Comprehensive diary management
• Answering telephone and email enquiries
• Assisting the fee earner with estate administration tasks
• Preparing invoices and liaising with Accounts on billing matters
• Completing forms as required on behalf of the fee earner
• Ensuring compliance with legal procedures and confidentiality standards
• Managing the Will collection procedure
• Covering colleagues for any holiday/sickness in the department as required
