When an individual is unable to make decisions for themselves and they have not made a Lasting Power of Attorney, the process is called Deputyship.

A formal application is made to the Court of Protection for a person or people to be appointed as the Deputy, which means they are responsible for making financial decisions for the individual who can no longer deal with their financial affairs.
