Commemorating 75 Years since VE Day

07th May 2020 Commemorating 75 Years since VE Day

Whilst putting up the bunting and preparing our stay at home afternoon teas to celebrate 75 years since VE Day, we all feel very humbled and enormously grateful for the sacrifices and efforts made by so many.

It feels particularly poignant at Thatcher + Hallam LLP during the midst of lockdown to reflect upon this.  We feel we can glean some perspective when thinking of the bravery that our much respected former colleague Ted Hallam showed whilst serving in the RAF during WWII.  Although he was always modest about his wartime activities, Ted had a distinguished wartime record.  As many of you will know, Ted enlisted in the RAF and joined Bomber Command in 1943.  He rose to Squadron Leader flying Avro Lancaster Bombers.  His tour of duty in 1944-45 involved 35 missions over Europe, many of which involved night raids.  Many of us cannot even begin to imagine what he had experienced, and his service was later recognised when received the Distinguished Flying Cross (“DFC”).

After his time in the RAF, Ted settled in Somerset and became the Senior Partner at Thatcher + Hallam Solicitors.  He sadly passed away in 2015 aged 92.
