Charity Update: Sperring Charity Grants
02nd Jul 2025
Earlier this year the Sperring Charity was delighted to award grants to various schools, organisations, sports clubs, individuals and churches in the local area. These included making a contribution to a local village hall for a roof replacement, paying for sight screens to a cricket club based in Bath and North East Somerset ensuring cricket matches could flow without disruption, and awarding a grant to St John’s Primary School here in Midsomer Norton so children could attend a school trip.
We all remember the excitement of being young and hearing about the opportunity to get out of the classroom for a day and go on a school trip with your friends and fellow students. When the Sperring Charity read the application from St John’s Primary School it was immediately clear that awarding a grant to enable students, some of whom perhaps experience greater financial hardship, to have the same opportunities and experiences as other students was an important thing to support.
George Persson, Secretary of the Sperring Trust, was delighted to meet with the Head of St John’s Primary and hear first-hand how support from the Charity will make a real difference. Danielle West-Gaul, Headteacher at the school, was very pleased for her students when she heard that the Sperring Charity had awarded the school a grant.
“Our application and subsequent grant award is to support families for school camps and trips which is a valuable experience in teaching our students resilience and teamwork as they grow.”
The Sperring Charity meets every quarter when Trustees consider all grant applications from individuals, organisations, schools and churches that sit within a 5-mile radius St John’s Church here in Midsomer Norton.
If you would like to make a grant application for consideration at our next meeting, please visit the charity website where an application form can be submitted. All completed forms can be either delivered in person to our offices in Midsomer Norton, or emailed to mthorne@th-law.co.uk.
