Lets talk about speed: Thatcher + Hallam supports BRAKE Road Safety Week 19th – 25th November
22nd Nov 2023Who are BRAKE?
BRAKE are a road safety charity who work to spread the message for safer driving standards, safer roads and fewer accidents.
BRAKE support those who have been injured or lost their lives in Road Traffic Accidents with support, signposting to help for families and support through their National Victim Support programme.
Lets talk about speed
BRAKE are highlighting the impact of speed in Road Traffic Accidents and how avoiding speeding and reducing speed can make the difference between a Road Traffic Accident causing injury, or death.
BRAKE seeks to raise awareness that:-
“The majority of speeding drivers who cause death and injury are normal people on normal journeys. But because we sometimes drive too fast, together we increase the risk of a crash – and we increase the chance that someone we love will be killed or hurt on a road”
10% increase in road deaths: the latest statistics on road death and injury revealed
1,711 people have died in road accidents on Britain’s roads in 2022, of those, 303 deaths were caused by excessive speed.
A further 28,031 people suffered serious injuries related to a road accident. Be that as a driver, a motorcyclist, a cyclist or a pedestrian.
The knock on effect of this for BRAKE is that more families are reaching out to them for help and the referrals for 2023 are already 18% higher than last year.

How we support the families of fatal road traffic accident victims
Prevention is possible, however 5 people still die on Britain’s roads every day due to vehicle related accidents.
Sadly this means that there are often families who are, all of a sudden, having to come to terms with a loss that was unexpected, an Inquest process and the financial losses associated with the sudden death of a loved one.
Fatal Accident and Injury claims provide compensation and financial support to the dependants of victims who have passed away, and may also provide more information as to what happened and why through the process of investigation of the accident.
Each Fatal Accident claim is unique, and we offer ‘No win, no fee’ funding so that there is no further financial burden or stress at what is often an extremely distressing time.
Access to quality legal advice, experienced lawyers and a friendly, empathetic touch is a must for such a process, and we are proud to support and provide our expertise and support for claims.
