About us
We are a friendly, client and community focussed law firm situated in Midsomer Norton which is a 20 minute drive from Bath City Centre, and 30 minutes from Frome and surrounding towns and villages.

This is why we offer free legal advice in many of our areas including a free legal advice surgery every Thursday, legal aid for family law matters, the Property Advice Line and ‘no win, no fee’ agreements for Personal Injury and Medical Negligence claims.

Charity of the Year initiative
The Sperring Charity
Community + Ethos
We have been at the centre of our community for over 250 years, working with individuals, businesses and families. Our ethos has never changed in that time. We aim to provide expert legal advice face to face, with every client receiving a bespoke service. If our clients are too ill to come and see us, then we travel to see them. At the conclusion of each case, we ask for feedback from our clients so that we can continually strive to improve our level of service. For almost 40 years we have provided a free legal surgery to our local community.
In addition to our legal work, we have also supported local charities including our Charity of the Year as well as the Somerset Coalfield Life Radstock Museum, the Somerset Farmers’ Market, The Sperring Charity and other local organisations, including Midsomer Norton Cricket Club.
Charity of the Year initiative
Every year we nominate a charity to sponsor for the year.
We very much enjoy working with the charities we support to help to understand their needs and requirements as these are often very bespoke to the charity themselves.

The Sperring Charity
The Sperring Charity is a local charity that supports the wellbeing of individuals and organisations who need help within a five mile radius of the Church of St John the Baptist in Midsomer Norton.
For over 30 years Thatcher + Hallam have acted as and for the Trustees of The Sperring Charity, managing the applications for assistance, and administering charitable funds via the Clerk/Administrator to the Trust (a role presently undertaken by Laura Ablett). Thatcher + Hallam has always maintained a place on the board of Trustees, and has overseen the sustained growth of the charity since inception, with applications now being received from a wide range of sources (including other charities).
Applications for support from the Trust are invited from the general public, with details being published in the local press, or alternatively please contact Laura Ablett for further information as to the application criteria.
